On 21st November 2021, Darrell drove a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in the middle of the annual Christmas parade in Waukesha, United States; the incident murdered 6 people and injured 62 others. He was arrested and charged with 6 counts of 1st-degree intentional homicide and 70 other charges. During the aftermath of the ramming, 5 people were killed, and 48 others were injured. Darrell chose to represent himself in court and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Darrell’s trial began on 3rd October 2022, and during the trials, he used arguments from the pseudo-legal sovereign citizen movement.
Darrell was repeatedly taken out of the courtroom for failing to comply with courtroom etiquette and courtesy. Further, on 26th October 2022, he was found guilty of all charges. He was sentenced to 6 consecutive life sentences under the condition of no possibility of parole, and an additional 1,067 years, to be served consecutively.
